Krishna Das, MD, Chief Quality Officer for Cook County Health (CCH), was named to Becker’s Hospital Review list of “50 Experts Leading the Field of Patient Safety.” This national list recognizes preeminent health care providers, administrators, researchers, professors and advocates working to advance patient safety. Dr. Das resides in Lake Bluff, Ill.

“Dr. Das has spearheaded a complete transformation of the system’s approach to quality and safety, including establishing a patient safety program and structured interdisciplinary standards to enhance patient care,” said Dr. John Jay Shannon, CCHHS CEO. “Her work at CCHHS, and at the national level, demonstrates her tremendous expertise in and devotion to enhancing patient safety.”

As a member of the Hospital Quality and Patient Safety committee of the Society for Hospital Medicine, Dr. Das helped develop the Choosing Wisely guidelines for Hospital Medicine to educate consumers and drive high value care at a national level. She also led CCHHS’ collaboration with America’s Essential Hospitals as part of the Essential Hospital Engagement Network, a Partnership for Patients initiative supported by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to reduce harm events in safety net hospitals, achieving drastic reductions in several measures of harm.

Dr. Das earned her medical degree from University of California San Francisco and completed her residency at Stanford University Medical Center. She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, certified in Health Care Quality Management and is a Fellow of the Society of Hospital Medicine. In addition to her role as Chief Quality Officer, Dr. Das is a practicing hospitalist at CCHHS’ John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital in Chicago.
