Cook County Health offers comprehensive therapy and rehabilitation services for patients of all ages in acute and outpatient settings, including:

  • Language, Speech and Hearing (LSH)
  • Occupational Therapy (OT)
  • Physical Therapy (PT)

Language, Speech and Hearing division

The Language, Speech and Hearing division is comprised of audiologists and speech-language pathologists.
Audiologists work with patients to help them understand hearing disorders, such as hearing loss. Our audiology division provides hearing testing and refers hearing aid requests to an outside source.
You should see an audiologist if you notice:
  • Difficulty hearing in loud environments
  • Experiencing a ringing in your ears
  • Notice a hearing loss
  • Trouble hearing others speak
Speech-language pathologists help patients with communication problems, including word pronunciation, cognitive development, nonverbal communication and swallowing problems. The Cook County Health inpatient department specializes in swallowing and feeding evaluations.

Occupational Therapy

Our occupational therapists provide a wide scope of services to help our patients engage in everyday activities or occupations.
The occupational therapy department provides resting splints, upper extremity therapy and activity-of-daily-living evaluation and training.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapists work with patients of all ages to help them regain movement and enhance performance in everyday activities. Physical therapy provides mobility training, ambulation equipment, trunk, neck and lower extremity evaluation and treatment to patients.
