John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital Chief Medical Officer Awarded “Soul of Medicine”

CHICAGO- The Cook County Health (CCH) Claudia Fegan is the newest recipient of the 2nd Annual Soul of Medicine Award. The award is given to physicians who inspire medical students to work for social justice.

Given jointly by Physicians for Social Responsibility & Physicians for National Health Program, the organization tries to select local members who have been actively involved in social justice.

“It is always gratifying to be acknowledged by your peers.  Physicians are esteemed members of the community, and as a physician, I feel it is our responsibility to advocate for the community.” said Dr. Claudia Fegan, Chief Medical Officer at the John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

Physicians for Social Responsibility is the largest physician-led organization in the U.S. working to prevent nuclear war and proliferation and to slow, stop and reverse global warming and toxic degradation of the environment.  Physicians in the National Health Program are a single issue organization advocating a universal, comprehensive single-payer national health program. PNHP has more than 18,000 members and chapters across the United States.
