Mark Loafman, MD, MPH, was recently appointed Chair of the Family and Community Medicine Department at Cook County Health (CCH). An Oak Park resident for 22 years, Dr. Loafman will lead the department of 60 family physicians and other providers in providing comprehensive, compassionate primary and preventive care to CCHHS’ patients. He is a national expert in community medicine and maternal and child health who has dedicated his career to reducing disparities in care and improving health care performance.

Prior to joining CCHHS, Dr. Loafman served as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for Near North Community Health Center, and was a founding faculty member and inpatient CMO for Northwestern University’s innovative and nationally-recognized McGaw Medical Center family medicine residency program.
He served as an Associate Professor of Family and Community Medicine at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine and was the founding medical director and CMO for the PCC Community Wellness Center on Chicago’s West Side. Additionally, Dr. Loafman held leadership and academic positions with West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, Ill and Norwegian American Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Loafman graduated with honors from Rush University Medical School and completed a Family Medicine residency at Brown University, serving as Chief Resident and Maternal Child Health Fellow. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science from Illinois State University and a Masters of Public Health from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Dr. Loafman holds several leadership roles at the state and national levels, including with the Board of Certification in Family Medicine-Obstetrics, the Alliance for Integrated Medication Management, the Society of Teachers in Family Medicine and the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science from Illinois State University, a Masters of Public Health from the University of Illinois at Chicago and his medical degree from Rush University Medical College.
