Chronic kidney disease may be caused by diabetes, high blood pressure and other disorders. Early detection and treatment can often keep chronic kidney disease from progressing to kidney failure, which requires dialysis or a kidney transplant to maintain life.

The National Kidney Foundation campaign: “Love Your Kidneys” encourages adults, particularly those with a familial link to chronic kidney disease, to get screened. The NKF estimates that there are 26 million American adults with chronic kidney disease, and millions at risk. For more information and screening sites, go to: www.kidney.org.
