Behavioral Health at Cook County Health

Around half of US adults have or will have a mental health condition at some point in their lives.  It’s important to know you are not alone.

Cook County Health (CCH) understands the challenges you and your family face as you try to navigate mental health issues and types of supports available.  We are here to help!

At CCH, we offer an array of mental health and substance use treatment and support services to help you through those difficult times. We believe your mental health is an essential part of your physical health and overall well-being, and our focus is to support our patients in reaching their full human being potential.  Our Behavioral Health services prioritize:

Behavioral Health services at CCH are available to any County resident, regardless of the ability to pay.  Call the CCH Patient Support Center at 312-864-0200 or talk to your primary care provider if you want more information about or access to behavioral health care at CCH.

Psychiatric services at CCH are provided by Board certified psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners.  Services are patient-centered, recovery focused and are typically part of a collaborative care approach.  You may be referred to other outpatient supports such as individual psychotherapy, group therapy, and case management services as needed. These outpatient services are either offered within our psychiatry clinics or are embedded in your primary care clinic.  Psychiatric services include:

  • Psychiatric Evaluation
  • Medication Monitoring, including Long-Acting Injectables

 

CCG psychiatric services are available to all Cook County residents and are offered Monday through Friday between 8:00 am-4:00 pm at the following locations.

Cook County Health’s team of licensed clinical psychologists are highly trained doctorate level mental health professionals with diverse backgrounds and extensive experience. Our mission is to provide comprehensive psychological services that support individuals and families in improving their mental and physical well-being and improving their overall quality of life.  Psychology services at Cook County Health include:

  • Speak with your CCH Primary Care Provider to request a referral to a CCH psychologist.

Through our Integrated Behavioral Health programming at the 13 Cook County Health Ambulatory Community Health Network (ACHN) centers, we offer outpatient mental health therapy and case management services.  Our Integrated Behavioral Health team is made up of highly trained and experienced clinical psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, licensed professional counselors and masters level case managers.  This team works collaboratively with your primary care team to create direct access to high quality mental health support and treatments such as comprehensive assessment and treatment planning, individual, family and group therapies as well as linkage to other care and supports within cook county health or other community providers as needed. Therapists work collaboratively with individuals to develop patient-centered treatment goals that are unique to each patient.

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and Recovery Support programs

At Cook County Health our Substance Use treatment and Recovery services are designed to support patients in achieving their individual recovery goals and provide whole-person, person-centered care to improve the physical, mental and social well-being. Taking a harm-reduction based approach, CCH prioritizes helping individuals improve their quality of life and reduce deaths related to opioid overdose.  Patients of our MAT program have access to a team to support their recovery journey.

The team consists of three primary team members:

  • Primary Care provider—prescribes medication for addiction treatment and integrated primary care.
  • Recovery Coach-a team member with direct or indirect lived experience with substance use recovery who can provide education, support the identification of individual recovery goals and creating a plan to help achieve them.
  • Licensed clinical therapist- supports individuals with co-occurring substance use and mental health including anxiety, depression, trauma, etc.

CCH Holiday Hours

Stroger Hospital and Provident Hospital are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please dial 911, or go to your nearest emergency department.

CCH Health Centers will be open limited hours for the holidays.
