Pathology studies the causes and effects of diseases and impacts on the body.
Pathologists work directly with other physicians to determine a patient’s diagnosis and develop a treatment plan.

Much of their work happens in laboratories or research centers.

The Clinical & Anatomic Laboratories of Cook County Health offer a full range of diagnostic services and offer professional consultative services at pathology clinics and patient treatment locations. In our clinical laboratories, we examine diseases affecting body fluids, including blood and urine. The clinical pathology laboratories provide more than 1,200 different laboratory analyses, including:

Detailed chemical analyses that help understand the body’s biochemical state.

Critical support for surgeries and treatments requiring blood transfusions.

Screening for pharmacological agents within the body.

Advanced technology to analyze the physical and chemical characteristics of cells.

Specialized diagnosis of diseases affecting blood cells.

Testing related to the immune system’s response to various pathogens.

 Identifying infectious agents and determining their susceptibility to antibiotics.

Utilizing molecular biology to diagnose and monitor disease.

Expert blood drawing for testing.

Treatment

In the anatomic laboratories, our pathologists examine the microscopic, biochemical and molecular properties and diseases that affect tissues and organs. We assure the most sophisticated diagnostic modalities of technology are available in anatomic conditions.

Quantitative analysis of cell structures.
