Eligibility

Applicants with the following qualifications are eligible for appointment to residency and fellowship programs at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County. 

  • Graduates of medical schools in the U.S. and Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). 
  • Graduates of colleges of osteopathic medicine in the U.S. accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). 
  • International Medical Graduates (IMGs) are required to meet all of the eligibility requirements of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Graduates of medical schools outside the U.S. and Canada must have received a standard certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). 
  • Candidates for residency programs must have passed USMLE Step 2 or COMLEX Level 2 prior to starting. 
  • Dentists with the following qualifications are eligible to enter advanced specialty education programs accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation: 
    • Graduates from institutions in the U.S. accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation 
    • Graduates from institutions in Canada accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada 
  • All medical graduates must be one of the following: 
    • U.S. citizen 
    • Lawfully Employable (i.e., EAD, PR or RA card holder) 
    • Eligible for an ECFMG sponsored J-1 Visa

CCH Holiday Hours

Stroger Hospital and Provident Hospital are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please dial 911, or go to your nearest emergency department.

CCH Health Centers will be open limited hours for the holidays.

Thanksgiving Day – Thursday, November 28, 2024: CLOSED

Christmas Eve – Tuesday, December 24, 2024: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Christmas Day – Wednesday, December 25, 2024: CLOSED

New Year’s Eve – Tuesday, December 31, 2024: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

New Year’s Day – Wednesday, January 1, 2025: CLOSED
