Stroger Hospital Earns Accreditation from The Joint Commission

May 4, 2016

John H. Stroger Jr., Hospital, the Cook County Health’s flagship hospital, earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Hospital Accreditation after its latest triennial survey. The Gold Seal of Approval® is bestowed to health care organizations that demonstrate continuous compliance with health care performance standards and reflects Stroger Hospital’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.

“Joint Commission accreditation recognizes the tremendous work our staff do day-in and day-out to provide high-quality, reliable, patient-centered health care,” said Dr. Jay Shannon, CEO, CCH. “A successful survey at Stroger Hospital is a testament to our system’s ongoing efforts in assuring patient safety.”

During the review, a team of Joint Commission expert surveyors evaluated Stroger Hospital’s compliance with national standards related to several areas, including environment of care, infection prevention and control, emergency preparedness and medication management. The accreditation is awarded for a three year period.

An independent, not-for-profit organization, The Joint Commission accredits and certifies more than 20,500 health care organizations and programs in the United States. Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards.
