Provident Awarded Accreditation from The Joint Commission

March 3, 2015

Provident Hospital, a member of the Cook County Health & Hospitals System (CCHHS), is pleased to announce that it has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Hospital Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its health care performance standards. The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects Provident’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.

“Provident Hospital has a longstanding history of providing safe, culturally competent care to its community,” said Dr. John Jay Shannon, CEO, CCHHS. “We are proud that The Joint Commission recognizes the efforts Provident has made, and continues to make, to enhance safety, patient care and experience.”

Provident underwent a rigorous, unannounced on-site survey in November. During the review, a team of Joint Commission expert surveyors evaluated compliance with hospital standards related to several areas, including emergency management, environment of care, infection prevention and control, leadership, and medication management. Surveyors also conducted on-site observations and interviews. The accreditation is awarded for a three year period.

“This accreditation by The Joint Commission is a testament to the commitment and expertise of our team here at Provident and their mission to provide our patients with high-quality health care,” said Dr. Aaron Hamb, Medical Director, Provident Hospital.

An independent, not-for-profit organization, The Joint Commission accredits and certifies more than 20,500 health care organizations and programs in the United States. Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards.
