December 7, 2020

Cook County Health and CountyCare Ranked Highest Among the HealthChoice Illinois
Managed Care Programs and Awarded Three-Year Accreditation
by the National Committee for Quality Assurance

(CHICAGO) – The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) released the 2020 Star Rating comparing Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) and CountyCare is ranked the highest managed care plan in Illinois.

Cook County Health and the CountyCare Health Plan also was awarded a three-year accreditation for demonstrating a commitment to quality by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).

“Cook County Health’s 186-year-old mission is to provide high-quality, safe care for the most vulnerable communities regardless of a patient’s ability to pay,” said Debra D. Carey, Interim CEO at Cook County Health.  “CountyCare was created in order to provide residents of Cook County in need of health services access to a wide range of health services and expert care through a comprehensive Medicaid plan.”

“We are proud that the CountyCare Health Plan received these two top honors,” said Ms. Carey. “The report card results and the three-year accreditation recognizes the high quality, comprehensive plan option being offered to individuals who are in need of a managed care plan.”

“The recent awards also indicate how the CountyCare Health Plan compares to other managed care plans statewide as well as to national Medicaid rating,” said Carey.

HFS released the 2020 Star Ratings comparing MCOs in Cook County based on six key performance areas.  CountyCare, which is a no-cost, Illinois Medicaid managed care health plan, received 5 stars in two of the six categories and ranked higher than the other four plans offered in Illinois across all categories.  The two categories CountyCare received five-star ratings are in Women’s Health and Keeping Kids Healthy. CountyCare received a total of 21 stars in all six categories.

“The Star Rating Report shows how the managed care plans in Cook County compare to one another in key performance areas and the ratings for each plan,” said Aaron Galeener, Interim CEO of CountyCare. “Our CountyCare team has worked tirelessly to develop and provide a comprehensive plan to CountyCare members with access to 4,500 primary care providers, 20,000 specialists and over 70 hospitals throughout Cook County.  The plan also provides dental care, vision care, mental health services, pharmacy services, transportation to and from doctors’ visits and other rewards.”

The NCQA is the most widely recognized accreditation program in the U.S., which is a top honor for service and clinical quality that meet or exceed the NCQA’s rigorous requirements for consumer protection and quality improvement.

“Receiving the three-year NCQA accreditation acknowledges our commitment to quality,” said Mr. Galeener.
