Cook County Department of Public Health Awarded National Accreditation
The Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) was awarded national accreditation by the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB). To receive national accreditation, CCDPH had to undergo a rigorous, multi-faceted, peer-reviewed assessment process to ensure it meet or exceeded a set of public health quality standards and measures.
“I congratulate Dr. Terry Mason and his staff for achieving national accreditation and their commitment to providing excellent public health services to the residents of suburban Cook County,” Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said. “It is another step toward demonstrating the County’s commitment to the health and wellness of our residents.”
Launched in September 2011, PHAB is the nonprofit organization that administers the national accreditation program for Tribal, state, local and territorial health departments, jointly funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. PHAB’s Board of Directors is comprised of seasoned public health practitioners, researchers, and leaders working to achieve standards of excellence in public health across all public health departments nationwide.
“This national accreditation ranks CCDPH in the top 1 percent among public health departments in the nation and further positions the organization to make enormous contributions in population health management within the Cook County Health & Hospitals System,” said Cook County Health and Hospitals System CEO Dr. Ram Raju.
“The PHAB accreditation provides a standardized way to measure the success of the essential services for public health departments,” said CCDPH COO Dr. Terry Mason. “Achieving national accreditation further demonstrates our commitment to advance the quality and accountability of our work in delivering excellence in public health programs and services to the residents of suburban Cook County.”
