CCH Announces 2014 Doctor of the Year

CHICAGO – The Cook County Health & Hospitals (CCH) announced today Doctor Tom Patrianakos, Division Chair of Ophthalmology was named Doctor of the Year, Cook County Health.

“Dr. Patrianakos is a physician who is fully behind the mission of the County Health System and is dedicated to providing high quality care that is compassionate. He has lead the way for patients who especially are in need of Glaucoma care. We are proud of the way Tom has worked to make his patients a priority and raise the bar in eye care at County,” said Dr. Claudia Fegan, Executive Medical Director, Cook County Health.

Dr. Patrianakos was selected amongst more than 500 colleagues and has been a County physician for 7 years.

He grew up in Skokie and attended medical school at Midwestern University and graduated in 2001 and then completed a residency at Cook County and a fellowship at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.

“I am really honored and humbled to accept this award on behalf of the County Health System physicians. The medical staff gives their best everyday and works hard to take care of patients. On a personal note, I want to thank all of the staff in the division of Ophthalmology who care for complex medical problems on a daily basis. The division works closely as a team and our top priority is to take care of patients the right way and provide high quality care,” said Dr. Patrianakos.

Dr. Patrianakos was also awarded the Chicago Curriculum of Ophthalmology “Teacher of the Year” award this month and has twice previously been awarded “Teacher of the Year” in the Division of Ophthalmology at Cook County.

He is also an Executive Board member of the Illinois Society for Prevention of Blindness and Glaucoma committee board member for the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He also serves as a reviewer on multiple boards for peer-reviewed Ophthalmology journals.

Dr. Patrianakos, 39, resides in Morton Grove, with his wife Leah and three sons.
