Cook County Health is proud to announce that John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a high-performing organization in treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, heart attack, heart failure, and kidney failure.
This is the highest distinction a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions ratings. High-performing organizations are distinguished as performing significantly better than the national average.
U.S. News evaluated more than 5,000 hospitals across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions. Hospitals awarded a “Best” designation excelled at factors such as clinical outcomes, level of nursing care and patient experience.

The annual Procedures & Conditions ratings are designed to assist patients and their health care providers in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures.
Cook County Health is one of the largest public health systems in the nation. The system serves more than 500,000 individuals each year through its hospitals and CountyCare, the system’s Medicaid-managed care plan. Stroger Hospital cared for more than 145,000 unique patients in 2023.
