Provident Hospital’s Main Laboratory was recently awarded accreditation by the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
The laboratory’s director, Vera H. Ray, MD, was advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the hospital’s demonstrated excellence of services. The Main Laboratory is one of more than 7,000 CAP- accredited laboratories worldwide.
“Congratulations on the excellent services that your laboratory is providing for your community and the efforts that you have made towards accreditation,” stated Leonard Boral, MD, MBA, Mid-Central Regional Commissioner of the Laboratory Accreditation Program. “We value your participation in the CAP’s Laboratory Accreditation Program.”
The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent that of it’s own inspection program. During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control procedures for the preceding two years. At the same time, staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety record, and overall management of the laboratory are closely examined – all to ensure the highest standard of care for Provident’s laboratory patients.
