Weekly lectures, conferences, and periodic cosmetic workshops round out a comprehensive educational experience spanning general, complex medical, surgical, and procedural dermatology.

Chair’s Welcome

Welcome to the Cook County Health Dermatology Residency Training Program. We are delighted that you are exploring our program and the mission that guides our work. At Cook County, our commitment is rooted in a powerful and longstanding purpose: to provide exceptional, compassionate, and equitable care for all individuals, regardless of their background, circumstances, or ability to pay.

Our residency program is built on the foundation of Cook County Health’s vision to advance health equity and strengthen the wellbeing of the communities we serve. As one of the nation’s oldest and largest public health systems, Cook County Health occupies a unique role in training physicians who are not only clinically skilled, but also deeply attuned to the social realities that shape healthcare access and outcomes.

Dermatology at Cook County offers a clinical experience like no other. Our residents care for patients with a remarkable breadth and depth of dermatologic conditions, from the most common presentations to rare, complex, and advanced disease. The diversity of our patient population provides unparalleled exposure to varied skin types, systemic disease associations, and socioeconomic influences on health. This ensures our graduates emerge confident in managing the full spectrum of dermatologic conditions and able to provide culturally responsive, comprehensive care.

Our academic environment values inquiry, critical thinking, and collaboration. Residents work closely with dedicated faculty committed to mentorship, teaching, and professional growth. Whether your goals include clinical practice, subspecialty fellowship, advocacy, public health leadership, or academic medicine, we support and guide residents to develop the skills and perspective essential for a meaningful career.

We are proud of our role in training dermatologists who embody clinical excellence, integrity, and compassion. Our graduates carry forward not only strong medical expertise, but also a deep understanding of the responsibility and privilege of caring for diverse communities.

We encourage you to learn more about what makes Cook County Health, and our dermatology residency, an extraordinary place to train, to serve, and to grow.
