Stroger Hospital Receives National High Performing Recognition from U.S. News & World Report

sierpień 4, 2026

John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County has been named to Wiadomości ze Stanów Zjednoczonych i raport światowy’s 2026-2027 Best Hospitals list as a High Performing hospital for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Heart Failure, Kidney Failure, and Leukemia, Lymphoma & Myeloma.

This is the highest distinction a hospital can earn as part of Wiadomości z USA’ Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions ratings. Fewer than half of the thousands of hospitals evaluated nationally earned a “High Performing” designation in the types of care evaluated by Wiadomości z USA.

“The designation by Wiadomości ze Stanów Zjednoczonych i raport światowy is testament to to the high quality of care being delivered by the teams at Stroger Hospital,” said Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. “Each day the Stroger Hospital team ensures that thousands of Cook County residents, regardless of ability to pay, have access to the high-quality care that they need, often in the most pressing of circumstances. At a time when the federal budgets are reducing support of public health, Cook County Health continues to show why investing in the work is so important.”

Wiadomości z USA’ annual Procedures & Conditions ratings are designed to assist patients and their health care providers in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures.

“These national quality distinctions are particularly important as Stroger Hospital cares for many medically complex patients,” said Dr. Erik Mikaitis, Chief Executive Officer, Cook County Health. “Achieving outcomes that rank among the nation’s best while fulfilling our mission as a public safety-net hospital speaks to the extraordinary expertise and dedication of our care teams. It proves that excellence in quality and equity are not competing priorities but go hand in hand, and reinforces that our communities deserve both.”

“This recognition belongs to every member of the Stroger Hospital team,” said Donnica Austin-Cathey, Chief Hospital Executive, Stroger Hospital. “From the bedside to the operating room, from environmental services to support staff, our teams work together every day to provide safe, high-quality care for our patients. We are honored to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report, and we remain committed to continuously improving the care and experience we provide to the individuals that depend on us.”

Wiadomości z USA evaluated nearly 4,500 hospitals across 14 adult specialties and 23 procedures and conditions; less than half earned recognition in any of those 37 areas of care. To determine the Best Hospitals, Wiadomości z USA analyzed each hospital’s performance based on objective measures such as risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications and patient experience. The Best Hospitals Specialty rankings methodology and Procedures & Conditions ratings methodology measure patient outcomes using data from over 800 million records of patient care.

“When patients face a major surgery or a chronic medical condition, having access to clear, quality data is vital,” said U.S. News’ Managing Editor and Chief of Health Analysis Ben Harder. “A ‘High Performing’ rating means that John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital outperformed a national threshold, giving families a reliable starting point as they consult with their doctors to choose the best place for care.”
