Thank you for your interest in the Cook County Health & Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine Public Health & General Preventive Medicine Residency Program. As a graduate of this program myself, I know firsthand how transformative these two years can be. With a curriculum designed around your unique interests and goals, this training will prepare you to make a meaningful impact in the communities and systems you serve.

Our mission is rooted in advancing health equity. At Cook County Health, we provide care to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay, and our health department serves a diverse county of 2.3 million residents. Here, you’ll have valuable opportunities to examine the structural and social determinants of health and work toward systems change that promotes health equity.

One of the hallmarks of our program is how intentionally we tailor each resident’s curriculum. With only two trainees per year, we are able to work closely with you to design a training plan that reflects your interests, career goals, and learning needs. Our faculty are deeply committed to your growth, and a number of program graduates among them offer mentorship shaped by both personal experience and professional expertise.

If you are looking for a program where you will be challenged, supported, and inspired to use your skills to improve health at the population level, I invite you to learn more about us. We look forward to meeting the next generation of public health and preventive medicine leaders.

Public Health & General Preventive Medicine Residency Program

طلب

متطلبات المتقدم:

  • Possess an MD or DO from a medical school in the United States accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education or the American Osteopathic Association
  • Completion of an ACGME accredited residency program in a primary care specialty (internal medicine, family medicine, or pediatrics) is preferred. Physicians with career interests in public health who will have successfully completed a PGY-1 year and completed Step III of the USMLE by the time of entry into the program can also be considered. Documentation that a clinical PGY-1 year in an ACGME accredited program will be completed prior to initiating the Public Health & Preventive Medicine program is an absolute requirement.

CCH participates in the ERAS system for resident applications. Applications in ERAS open in September, and review begins at that time. More information on ERAS can be found هنا.

There are two application tracks available in the ERAS system.

  • ال Advanced track is designed for applicants without prior post-graduate residency training—typically MS4s—who plan to enter the program in two years. Applicants must also apply for a transitional year at another institution, and admission is contingent on both acceptance to and successful completion of that year before starting the Public Health & Preventive Medicine Residency Program.
  • ال Reserved for Physicians Only track is for applicants who will have at least one year of post-graduate residency training completed by the end of this academic year and are prepared to begin the Public Health & Preventive Medicine Residency Program next year.

Our program also participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) through the American Board of Preventive Medicine, with offers made in March for a July 1st start. More information on NRMP can be found هنا.
